Man-E-Faces: Unmasked!

In the 1985 UK Masters of the Universe Annual in a story titled "The Tale of Man-E-Faces" we actually get to see what Eternia's greatest actor looks like without his costume. The accompanying picture to the story shows Man-E-Faces bowing before King Randor and Queen Marlena, shortly before being cursed by Skeletor.

Funny how Marlena seems displeased with Man-E for some reason.

Howdy

Hey cool, nice to see a character unmasked....now if only we could get to see Orko and Tri-klops...but then thinking about it this would destroy the air of mystery that surrounds them....hmmmm!

Jukka,

I kinda think she doesn't like redheads. I never would've thought him a red. It seems there was a lot more MOTU story development in Europe than the states.

What a gorgeous painting, firts of all. I actually find Marlena and Randor more curious than Mr. E Faces, though. It's amazing how similar their costumes are to what they would eventually become, yet how different. (Didn't they and Adam have a similar appearence in the original DC comics? I wonder where the model sheets for these characters are floating around)

Well, this version of Man-E-Faces kind of resembles the guy in blue from the "Who are these people?" Blog entry (Taken from She-Ra's "The Red Night").

Queen Marlena looks like she could be her own mother here, and King Randor looks more like King Miro ("Search For The Past"/"King Miro's Journey")!

Finally, Prince Adam is sporting a turquoise-colored vest, probably because his pink vest is being washed in the laundry! :)

Outstanding artwork, on a more serious note. :)

Thanks for posting and reading! God Bless...

They're clearly shocked because Adam has just introduced them to his boyfriend.

It's strange, I had all of the annuals except for the Ladybird storybook / annual, but my memory has totally forgotten this one.

Either way, I always liked Man-E-Faces as a cursed 'Jekyll and Hyde' character, and was never so keen on the versions where he could turn into his monster and robot self at will.

One of the rare things about Man-E-Faces! GREAT STUFF! This ranks up right there next to the "monster"-beast of Man-E controlling him in one comic-story.

More Annual stuff is definitely needed.

As interesting as it is to see Man-E-Faces without his gear, it's also interesting to see that Queen Marlena appears as she does in the original DC comics.

I was going to make a "Boyfriend" comment too (like Dan did above). They almost look like they could be a couple here... and a pretty cute one at that!!!

I agree with Jukka that Marlena seems to be a little angry at this ilustacion. I find it rare to see white-haired kings! Perhaps, at the time of the drawing, Man and faces was not wearing his actors costume! What does he has in that little bag you see? We should guess...Thanks for the input.
