The Sorceress?!

The He-Man and the Masters of the Universe Series Guide was given to stations wishing to pick up the show for broadcast. Like the Series Bible it contains lots of character histories, early conceptual drawings, and episodes that were never made. Here I present the earliest design of the Sorceress. Finding a trace of the final Filmation Sorceress in this drawing is like looking for the proverbial needle in the haystack! The slightly Egyptian design of the character does remind me somewhat of the Sorceress that appeared in the most recent He-Man and the Masters of the Universe animated series...

Howdy

Woah, so glad she was changed to the Sorceress we all know and love, the purple skin makes her look like an alien and less like a human character you could potentially relate to.

I believe the final design of The Sorceress was influenced by the Norse Goddess Freyja, who wore a cape of falcon feathers which enabled her to channel the spirit of the falcon and thus transform and fly as the falcon herself. She was one of many deities worshipped by the Northern European shamanic tribes.

As cool as she is, I really prefer the regular fimation Sorceress over the early concept and especially the 2002 version. Which is kinda odd as the filmation Sorceress has a simplier design. Less is more I guess!

A gorgeous heroine ... However, with a design like this, she would have worked better as a completely different sorceress, like a one-shot character (Ex: The Enchantress, from "Search For The Past").

"Trouble's Middle Name" could have featured such a character as one of the guardians of The Temple of The Sun, instead of two male guardians. She would have made a memorable appearance, there.

The She-Ra series probably could have utilized this character as well, as either a member of the Great Rebellion or a mysterious evil or good sorceress on Etheria!

Thanks for posting and reading! God Bless...
