What was Faker?

In Filmation's adaptation of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe the one character they misused is one that people often forget; Faker. Released with the earliest assortment of characters the blue-skinned He-Man was given a poor origin in the season one episode "The Shaping Staff" and did not resemble his toy form at all. A lot of people are often confused by Faker and what his purpose was in the world of He-Man. The only real decent story for his existence was given by the UK annuals which stated:

"A being created by Skeletor himself with the aim of looking exactly like He-Man, to create maximum trouble and confusion. Unfortunately for Skeletor something went wrong in the spell, and Faker is a miscolored and negative version of He-Man, easily detectable as the evil being he is. Through magic, Skeletor can make him into an exact likeness, but the spell lasts only a very short time, and the evil creature is soon revealed."

Howdy

They should have used Faker alot more and better. A blue He-Man causing havoc would have been great.

Interesting bit of history on Faker ... That would have translated well into the cartoon.

If I can remember correctly, one of the He-Man coloring books or story books, at the time, featured a story about the Heroic Warriors throwing a costume party and Skeletor using Faker to cause trouble for the Heroic Warriors by going as himself ... Everyone thought that Faker was He-Man, painted blue, for his "costume!" :)

Thanks for posting and reading! God Bless...

Thank you for sharing this bit of information from the MOTU UK Annual. Though can you help me out and specify which UK Annual it was (year)?

The information in them UK Annuals sounds really fascinating. You need to post more material from them! ;)

I've never questioned the faker gimmick. As a kid, I thought he looked awesome w his color scheme and believed he was Skeletor's definitive evil clone! The filmation story that never developed would've been the best way to introduce him!

Faker was always a confusing character origins. I think that this text is one of the best explanations ... and can save some errors produced between Mattel and Filmation. I find it interesting the part that explains: "Through magic, Skeletor Can Make an exact likeness Into him, But the spell lasts only a very short time, and soon the evil creature is Revealed." Well, this part may clarify the issue of colors. Thanks James for investigate and post
