Surprise Transformation!

Here is a lovely illustration of She-Ra transforming Spirit into Swift Wind by Robin Davies, taken from the She-Ra Ladybird book "Spirit is kidnapped." You'll notice that there is a figure on the back of Swift Wind; this is actually Catra who had kidnapped Spirit. However Catra does not understand what has occurred and believes that both She-Ra and Swift Wind have rescued Spirit in a speedy maneuver!

I love the artwork from these UK Ladybird books - I think they're some of the most lovely MOTU/POP artwork I've ever seen! :)

We were really lucky to have these in the UK, and even luckier that every second-hand bookshop seems to have at least one! ;)

I always found that amusing. The one time an evil warrior actually sees Spirit transform into Swift Wind and she still doesn't realize they're the same animal, thinking Spirit has been teleported away and replaced with Swift Wind... if the evil warriors are this stupid it might be safe for Adam and Adora to transform in front of them- "Hey look, Prince Adam has been teleported away and replaced with He-Man!"

Mosquitor: I have only one to say and that is that it is in the convention of comicbook superheroes to transform secretly. I guess the magic just wouldn't be there otherwise, even if it is quite obvious that Adam is He-Man, Adora is She-Ra, Spirit is Swift Wind, Clark Kent is Superman, Diana Prince is Woman etc.

Fantastic artwork! The red tones of She-Ra's cape and from the transformation of Spirit to Swiftwind really jump out at you in this image. :)

This little scenario reminds me of what Grizzlor witnesses in the "Friendship" episode ... Adora is placed in a prison cell, Kowl brings Adora's sword to her so that she can transform into She-Ra, then finally, Grizzlor can't figure out what happened to Adora after he sees She-Ra in the same room!

Also, that tree-like structure with the eyes and mouth, on the left, looks a bit like the tree/wizard from "The Reluctant Wizard." :)

Thanks for posting and reading! God Bless...

Great looking image. And very cool transformation-scene.

While Catra is not all that bright for recognizing what has happened I actually think She-Ra is the one acting more foolhardy here, using the Sword of Protection in a moment of obvious "bad timing"

Evidently the author of the story thinks that Catra is not bright enough to realize that Spirit and SW are the same creature! I really enjoy these pictures, have some nice details. The silhouette of Catra and SW in red is very interesting. I love the artwork from These UK Ladybird books...
