A battle fought in the stars...

Here is my first Blog entry referring my least favorite part of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe; the live action movie! There are many things I like about the movie, mainly the production artwork by Moebius and Bill Stout, and the actual designs throughout the film, but they are overshadowed by in my opinion an extremely weak story. But I will be posting further Blog entries about the movie because it is a part of the Masters of the Universe, and always will be! An advert that was carried across numerous publications can be seen here on taken from the back cover of issue sixty-four of the UK Masters of the Universe comic. I actually think this is a very appropriate advert for the film.

I'm always pumped to see any poster artwork or anything for that matter from the live action movie! I hope to see more posts in regards to the movie! I'd love to have that poster hanging to other 5 Live action posters!

I think the only thing I liked about the movie was Frank Langella's speech before becoming God Skeletor!

I remember coming out of the theater quite dissapointed, What I liked the most: Moebius designs (with brian bolland, moebius is my favorite artist) I think most of the eternian palace and other strucures in he-man the series are quite reminiscent of moebius' designs. I liked the evil-lyn outfit, the dimensional portal effect in the school gym scene and Lundgren as he-man was a quite decent choice for the time being, I also liked skeletor coming out of the abyss' bog saing "I'll be back" or something like that... I wish I could see more of moebius work for that movie.

I also can' help but get a superman vibe from that poster...ala Superman 4 which came out the same year. Cannon gave us a great He-Man film in my opinion. I'm always open to discuss that one b/c I've learned so much about it growing up and respect it even more w an adult perspecitve. It's in my top 5 films of all time!

I concur, this advert is actually pretty good. Tagline works well with this image. Though I remember it was used on other images as well and didn't resonate quite as well.

Love the big portion of image given to space. With a title like "Masters of the Universe" you can't go wrong showing space in the image. :)

Yeah not a bad poster but the film could have been so much more. at least we got a few new figures out of it!

I despised the movie as an uneducated kid because it was very little like the animated show but I kinda like it now, even though you can see why it's set on earth with the budget.

By the way, the DVD copy I got was the wrong version, with the awful 4:3 crop and lesser artwork on the cover, massively disappointed! :(

Again, I just can't love this movie. The scenes that I remember is Evil Lyn messing with poor Courtney Cox (pretending to be her mom) and then the Sorceress being super old in that cage!

Me: Hey Gwildor; when's the Masters of the Universe super uber muscular edition coming out on DVD and Blu-ray?
Gwildor: I don't know, I don't know, I don't know?!
Me: Hey Gwildor; why was Saurod such a safety hazzard?
Gwildor: I don't know, I don't know, I don't know?!
Me: Hey Gwildor; why did this film take place on Earth instead of Eternia and why was Courtney Cox Arquette in this movie?
Gwildor: I don't know, I don't know, I don't know?!!!! :D

It looks like a pretty cool advert for it though and yes I actualy still have my copy of this film on VHS, so yeah it's the same one shown on the advert. :D
