Birthday Blog #3 - Greyskull?

"The Shaping Staff" is one of He-Man's best loved episodes, and one of Paul Dini's best action episodes! One scene in the episode that always comes up for discussion occurs when Beast Man and Evil-Lyn in disguise examine an image of Castle Grayskull. It is a simplistic drawing of Castle Grayskull; but more surprisingly, the word "Greyskull" is written at the bottom, an incorrect spelling of "Grayskull." It appears the time-tested debate over whether there is an 'a' or an 'e' in "Grayskull" is as old as He-Man itself.

You can tell this is one of the early episodes just from the general atmosphere and dialogue of this scene, with Randor(Beast Man) referring to Grayskull as simply as castle to be conquered, with none of the awe and grandeur that the name should inspire!

Run it through the spell-checker! :)

When you did the review for this episode, James, I think you mentioned something about how ridiculous it was that the characters weren't looking at a full map, but rather the simplistic image, as mentioned here...

Even a more detailed map, like the one featured in "Prince Adam No More" or the one featured in the book from "The Dragon's Gift," would make more sense, in this case. :)

Thanks for posting and reading! God Bless...

While I've made it clear through all the years that I am of the "Grayskull with A"-team (since that is how it is written on actual toy-box and all the copyright-texts), I am now looking at this image and wondering if the artist gave any thought to the barrier-line surrounding this simplistic image of the Castle. It doesn't have any shapes that would allude it being Grayskull but who knows what the Eternian map-illustrator was thinking...
