Skeletor's Christmas Cast!

"A Christmas Special" started off superbly, Etherians on Eternia, Orko in danger, He-Man rushing to save the day with She-Ra not far behind. So how did it all go so very wrong? One of the finer moments of the first few minutes occurs when we are treated to an interior shot of the Collector with Skeletor's band of Evil Warriors. However on this occasion we get possibly one of the most interesting collections of Evil Warriors ever witnessed! First off we have season two He-Man villain Webstor, and even though he is silent in this appearance it is nice to see his return to the screen. The appearance of Rattlor is very surprising as we last saw him in the She-Ra series as a member of the Horde. Finally we have the two villains from the latter half of season two; Spikor and Two Bad, who only appeared together very briefly in one episode. This panning shot shows just how colorful this collection of Evil Warriors is! But Rattlor; it is odd how we are expected to accept that the guy sitting in-between longtime Skeletor warriors Webstor and Spikor has always been one of the Evil Warriors! Then again the Snake Men had a rough time with regards to continuity in the He-Man and She-Ra series, and that is something I will discuss very soon...

Beast-Man, Trap Jaw, or Kobra Khan would have been better candidates to replace Rattlor, in this feature. :)

Rattlor's inclusion in Skeletor's gang makes me think of Tung Lashor's appearance alongside Skeletor in She-Ra's "Gateway To Trouble" ... Just seeing the Horde emblem on Tung Lashor's uniform cracks me up, because he is supposed to be working for Skeletor in that episode!

An outstanding panning screen shot of these villains with such magnificent color, James! :)

Thanks for posting and reading! God Bless...

I don't know if this explanation makes any sense, but when I was a kid, I made sense of the scene. However, for it to make sense, you have to dip into the mini-comic contuinity for a minute or two.

Remember that in the She-Ra cartoon Tongue Lashor and Rattlor served Hordak? And that in the mini-comic, Skeletor released King Hiss, and he in turn conjured up Tongue Lashor and Rattlor from Etheria. Skeletor even identifies them as being servants of the Horde. I imagined that even when Skeletor\Keldor served the Horde, Tongue Lashor and Rattlor were in the background somewhere.

So, how did Rattlor and Tongue Lashor come to serve the Horde?

Rattlor mentions that when the Snakemen were banished to their dark dimension, they were left behind with no master to serve. Hordak, being on Eternia at that time still, was their next logical master.

I figured that in the Christmas special's timeline, King Hiss had already been unleashed on Eternia, but was not in the Christmas special.

But then again, I was only an 11-year-old at the time...

This appearance of Rattlor, Spikor and Two-Bad in "A Christmas Special" was the only time I saw these characters in a He-Man (or She-Ra) series during my childhood. Webstor was familiar to me as I had "The Cat and The Spider" on VHS.

I loved seeing these characters in the Christmas special, but one thing that always bothered me was that, suddenly, the Collector had four pilots instead of just one...

Snake Men and specifically Rattlor, always cause confusion when we were kids! I believe that neither artists nor writers were able to give adequate continuity to Rattlor, and Mattel pushed Filmation to "sell" this toy at all costs. I wish we could clear it this time line ... and that is the genius Busta! Thanks for sharing.

I remember when the Christmas Special was first shown I was amazed seeing all these toys in toon form for the first time. For years afterwards I only remembered the good parts about the special, so in my mind it was a fabulous show...

Never understood why Rattlor was working with Skeletor. Though it's a fun idea that Skeletor wouldn't discriminate for employing Snake Men.

Gotta love the scene of Skeletor throwing all the Evil Warriors out of the Collector in a parachute.
