Christmas Week(s) - On the other hand...

"A Christmas Special" marked the first appearance of the Monstroids, whom I think were a good addition to the He-Man and She-Ra universe. They worked for Horde Prime and helped to expand the Horde Empire. This group of threatening transforming robots were almost definitely based on a certain group of robots in disguise from another show of the eighties! The most disappointing thing about the Monstroids was their appearance in "Day Of The Flowers" from She-Ra's season two, where they were portrayed as unthreatening, unintelligent robots that obeyed Hordak's every command, and could be defeated by cold temperatures! As you will see from this video clip they originally feared no one...

The Monstroids? Working for Horde Prime?! As it's the panto season, I can legitimately use this line: "Oh no they didn't!"

You're right, James! Even when the Monstroids were being destroyed and wrecked by the "good guys," they never backed down!

Every time my brother and I watch this special, we always laugh at the third Monstroid that "transforms," because he really doesn't transform ... The first two Monstroids show signs of shape shifting, but the third one just raises its arms and legs and it can fly! Not a whole lot of effort put into him! We both bust out laughing at that character. :)

On a similar note, something I forgot to mention in the September 2006 Blog post, titled "Evil Personified," was that in the image featuring the Manchines, it looks like they are warming up or working out, like in gym class! :)

Thanks for posting and reading! God Bless...
