How popular was Evilseed?

Evilseed who appeared in the season one He-Man episode "Evilseed" was one of my favorite characters from the Filmation series. The He-Man and the Masters of the Universe animated series by Mike Young Productions reintroduced the character to a new generation of fans, and he appeared in numerous episodes. Will alone had allowed Zadoc Angell and I the ability to write an incredibly in-depth guide to the Filmation series back in 2001 for the writers of the new show, a guide which included a lengthy profile on Evilseed! Be that as it may the character's portrayal in the new show was a little unexpected. Out went the old sinister Evilseed and in came this character that at times was portrayed quite comically with a highly irritating voice. On the first He-Man season one DVD boxset released by BCI a lot of fans who had long since forgotten about the original Evilseed were surprised to see the character show up, many believing him to be a creation by the writers of the new show! DVD quality finally gave us the chance to see the original Evilseed as he was always intended to look, a lot of his best movements animated by storyboard artist Tom Sito!

I actually really liked the new Evilseed's voice, very Chris Latta esque! :)

Awesome screen capture, James. :) One of the qualities that makes Evilseed such a memorable villain is that he was so evil, he was out to conquer not only the "good guys," but Skeletor and his gang, as well! No one could even attempt to "make a deal" (As Skeletor would suggest, at one point in the episode) with this kind of a guy. Plus, until the snowfall, Evilseed was so cocky and confident, that nothing could faze or threaten him ... Those type of "overconfident" villains on screen are the kind you just love to hate! :)

Thanks for the info., Busta!

Thanks for posting and reading! God Bless...

The original Evilseed was way cool. I just loved the idea of a second bad guy who was so evil and powerful to threaten even Skeletor. And he showed up in the cartoon long before Hordak came to be. The new version from the 2000s' looked like a Pokemon... and I just hated the rivality with Mossman.

I was so shocked and thrilled when they brought evilseed into 200x!! I don't think either design is better than the other. Both totally different characters and badass in their own way. I want classics of both forms!

I would love to see the bible that you and Zadoc wrote for the 200x show. EvilSeed was far better in Filmation than in the MYP show. Moss Man was miles better!

I will take Filmation "Artichoke Head" Evilseed any day over the MYP one.
