With pleasure!

Here is an action packed panel featuring Fisto and Trap Jaw from the minicomic "Masks of Power". Very few artists could draw panels as detailed and explosive as Alfredo Alcala, and I for one am so glad that during his lifetime he worked on Masters of the Universe.

Orko's smiling!

A while back I was watching "The Curse of the Spellstone" from season one of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, and noticed Orko's little smile peeking through his cowl, as he demonstrates his less that magical powers to Prince Adam. Personally, I always enjoyed the early season one animation of Orko, because outside of the stock animation sequences, the animators all had their own unique way of illustrating the character.

Isn't that the toy shield?

The episode "She-Demon of Phantos" was one of the earliest episodes of the He-Man series to be produced. This becomes evident not only through some of the character writing, but also the animation looks odd at times, with an absence of stock footage. In the opening scene of the episode we see Man-At-Arms and Prince Adam testing the weapons produced with Photanium, a precious ore located on Phantos. During this test we can see that Prince Adam holds a shield which looks exactly like the one that came with the He-Man action figure. There is no doubt that the animators produced a model sheet for He-Man's shield, as it was used in the rarely seen animated toy advert. For some reason the decision was made not to bring the shield into the actual series; except in this once scene...

Throw the villain #3

This is the third installment, and hopefully the last, to highlight He-Man's repeated technique of dealing with frontal attacks from the villains of Eternia. We first saw how the most powerful man in the universe dealt with Mer-Man in "Diamond Ray of Disappearance"; then we witnessed He-Man use the same technique to defeat a warrior from Eternia's past. And finally, in the episode "Evil-Lyn's Plot" we see He-Man demonstrate once more his technique for sidestepping an opponent and throwing them into the air; and unfortunately for Mer-Man it is he once again who is the recipient!

Throw the villain #2

A few days back I pointed out how He-Man dealt with an attack from Mer-Man in the season one episode "Diamond Ray of Disappearance". Well, from the same season, actually four episodes later, in "The Time Corridor", the most powerful man in the universe defeats a warrior from Eternia's past using the exact same technique!

Throw the villain #1

During the battle at Castle Grayskull from the season one episode "Diamond Ray of Disappearance" we see Mer-Man attack He-Man. Of course, He-Man sidesteps the attack, grabs Mer-Man and throws him into the air. However, this would not be the last time we saw this specific action sequence used. Toy Kowl model sheet.

I thought it would be interesting to take Kowl's color model sheet from the She-Ra series, and turn it into a model sheet representing the colors of the action figure; and subsequently the colors he was given in the Ladybird books. What do you all think?

Skeletor's crazy laugh!

Here is a very strange image from the season one He-Man episode "The Dragon Invasion". Skeletor laughs as he prepares to battle the Sorceress, and dare I say it, even though we all know "A Christmas Special" to be the moment in the series where he smiles, this image to me looks somewhat like a smile, albeit a very evil one!

Here is a beautiful illustration by Robin Davies from the Masters of the Universe Ladybird book "The Iron Master". I personally love the bold colors in this image, as well as the strong line work and shadows on the characters. It is interesting to look at this image and compare it to one of the later Masters of the Universe Ladybird books where Robin's style had been influenced by the Filmation cartoon and thus streamlined...
