Here is an interesting piece of development artwork of
Kowl, as featured in the
She-Ra Series Bible. You can see what the character designers had in mind originally for Kowl; emphasizing his intellectual persona with glasses. Even though the character design would change, you can see that many of the character elements had already been established.

God, all those early character designs are so sh*t! I'd probably have been put off watching the series as a kid if the characters had looked that daft!
Interesting to see a more insect-like pattern on Kowl's wings, here. The glasses make the character look kind of like Doc from Disney's "Snow White" and Uncle Scrooge, from Disney's "DuckTales!" :)
Thanks for reading! God Bless!

With those glasses on, Kowl reminds me of the Virgil character from the old "Mighty Max" cartoon, LOL!
As I'm not such a fan of POP series over He-Man's.. I always like bow... the concept has more fair-like wings... wich i think couldn't hold that chubby body... the glasses make him look like merlin's owl (on Disney's the Sword in the Stone)
Clearly, the artists had a thing for Disney's Sword in the Stone with the Owl and Madame Mim both almost ending up in She-Ra.
It really strike me as the owl from Winnie the pooh just to mention someone else as i can see where Kevin is coming from!
Wow he looked horrible with those glasses, and really old. Glad they scrapped this design for Kowl.
