Memories #21 - When Prince Adam appeared...

In an effort to make a note of all my He-Man and She-Ra childhood memories I've decided that every once in a while I will make reference to them here! There is no particular order to these; just amusing little anecdotes from years gone by.

Thinking I knew everything about He-Man as a kid, and hearing the lie that a Queen Marlena figure had been released, I was somewhat skeptical of anyone telling me that a certain figure was available. I remember a cold wet winter's day; a few of us were in the playground sitting by the outdoor table during lunch. Another kid in the playground was talking about the figure of Prince Adam he had just bought. I distinctly remember flat out refusing to believe that a figure of Prince Adam existed. Days later I was proven wrong...

I've heard this story before James, I think I remember you telling it on the he-man.org forums once... and I can totally imagine how you felt, there were so many lies going round at school about alleged new figures (I've posted a response on a previous entry about the time I was fooled by a kid who said there was a Horde Prime action figure) that I can imagine the surreal feeling you describe upon seeing the Prince Adam figure for real!

I was 3 when I started collecting the toys after a year of watching the show, so Prince Adam was already available by that time; he was among the first figures I ever got for Christmas 1984!

Agreed ... Prince Adam was one of those characters that didn't seem like he would make the toy-line, but it was one of the greatest surprises when it actually happened! The creators put great effort into the action toy by making the belt and vest out of actual fabric instead of plastic, which is usually part of the toy already. :)
Thanks for reading! God Bless!

I remember when Prince Adam was released. A friend of mine kept telling me he was real and I wouldn't believe him. He even had his mom tell me so! LOL! It wasn't until a trip to Philadelphia, PA that when we went to this mall there that I saw him and my mother bought him for me with Buzz Off and one other figure. I so miss those times! Man, if I only knew then what I know now! My buy me 5 Eternias! $$$$$$

Prince Adam was my favorite He-Man toy. I was so happy to have a Clark Kent/Bruce Wayne type figure. I loved the idea of the duel identities but most of the time they never made the boring normal version of a super hero.

When I was a child, I never asked my parents to buy any specific MOTU characters. They usually bought what they could find and thought I would like. Though, there was one exception to this, Prince Adam. Reason I asked them to get me Prince Adam was not the character itself, but the story tape it came with.

I got my Prince Adam on my 7th birthday (summer 1989) along with King Randor and Tytus.

Man that's a great story! I remember seeing the star comics toy ad when I was in elmentary school that showed marlena w the heroic warriors and thought she mustve been planned down the line at some point! Very disappointing then.

Days before the internet, hearing what your friends have and being jealous of that! I loved the adam figure and it may have been because of his jacket. I was really excited when the classic figure was released! I actually managed to get a MOC vintage one off ebay for an insanely cheap amount!

Beware the prince with his pink shirt, purple trousers and his mainly pink sword. :D

It's strange that Adam would get a figure released, but not Adora. Nice job Mattel, really nice. It would have also been great if there was a Queen Marlena figure, but alas it wasen't to be.
