Skeletor reborn!

"Sword & Staff", the sixth episode of The New Adventures of He-Man series, is very impressive for a number of reasons. As this was the first episode of the series after the first five-part introductory story we would expect a rather subdued or straightforward independent story. Instead we are treated to one of the most memorable episodes in the series, which really showcases the beautiful dynamic between He-Man and Skeletor. Not only that, but we also learn some of the history of Primus. The most notable scene occurs when Skeletor absorbs the power of an evil crystal on Nordor, which not only gives him more power, but also a new costume to boot! We see a very striking piece of animation when the crystal explodes, and Skeletor, in his original form, is engulfed by a bright light. It is not until the following scene when we discover that he is still very much alive...

Skeletor should NOT have eyeballs! But cool looking piece of animation.

Looks like the shocked expressions shown on the heroes' faces from "The Real Ghostbusters" episodes (The eyes!). :)
Thanks for reading! God Bless!

Man this was an awesome transformation!! Watching it today it doesn't feel like a toy advert b/c Skeletor sticks w this look the rest of the series until the third variant shows up much later.

The New Adventures of He-Man is a pretty unfamiliar part of the MOTU to me. While growing up, I only had this promo VHS of the series.

This promo VHS consisted of the first episode of the series (most of it anyway), then there was this Skeletor's transformation scene and then rest of it was episode "The Gift" (completely or partially). All of this was edited together like it was a one single story. And because Skeletor's look had changed between the first episode and "The Gift", they had included this transformation scene into the "story".

KK C&D Asia really outdone themselves with this sequence, in fact this whole episode in general.

Not bad for a animation studio who just used to zap depressed lovers with the power to end the world in another cartoon they animated which has plenty of connections shown in this series.

Like for instance recycled PKE meters, whoops I said too much. :D

That is a very impressive piece of animation. I love how they imply power by leaving out the colours. It works brilliantly!

One thing I do like about the New Adventures series was that sometimes the animation was striking! Like this scene was very cool to see! The opening credits were beautiful to see. Just shame that sometimes the story just suffered.

I really appreciate you posting the sequence in this way. It's so striking! I remember, after seeing this post for the first time, I went back and rewatched the episode just because it was so awesome looking!
