Throne rooms revisited...

"A New Beginning", the first episode of The New Adventures of He-Man, featured some nice references to the original Filmation series. We see Snake Mountain's throne room, which whilst different in its presentation, still has the throne partially made of bone. By far the most impressive homage to the original series is the scene that takes place at the Royal Palace. Except for their respective color schemes, King Randor and Queen Marlena are the same as their Filmation counterparts. Not only that, but the design of the throne room itself looks a lot like the one seen in the Filmation series.

Best resemblance between the two series, when it comes to the Royal Palace throne room ... This was one of my favorite scenes in the series, revealing the "secret identity." :) While the "New Adventures" version of Skeletor's throne room appears to be a neat and tidy "upgrade," I prefer the dark and cavernous atmosphere of Filmation's original look ... Has a spooky and magical feel to it. :)
Thanks for reading! God Bless!

The first episode is perhaps my favorite of the entire series, namely because of these homages to the original. I thought it was extremely respectful of the artists to do so! It's just a shame we never actually saw Castle Grayskull!

This was the first episode I ever saw of the series as a child. I bought everything they were selling! I loved how interiors were so similar to Filmation! One of the many reasons I so appreciate NA!

I think it's a shame they didn't have Adam wear a vest and tights until he gets to the future. Mattel owns the characters they made toys off, so it seems like Jetlag could have used some of the attributes of the original Adam and Power sword until he got to the future. But they they would have had to make a transformation sequence special to the first transformation.

Jean and co. must have used the original show for some references, even if those references were used for a few minutes in the finished product.

Still you do got to hand it to them for trying to stay true to the all ready established canon. :)
