The Story of Modulok #1

Issue sixty-four of the UK Masters of the Universe comic features the origin story for Modulok, which differs vastly from the He-Man episode "Mistaken Identity" which also details his origin. The surprising thing is that Modulok's original name in this story, Galen Nycoff, is very similar to the episode's script which named him Galen Nycroft. As the cartoon had already aired years prior, it is obvious that the writer of this story looked to the cartoon for some inspiration. I actually really like the design of Galen in this story...

I never liked the design of Galen Nycoff in this story at all. He was supposed to be human and yet he doesn't look human at all, he looks more like a 'cuter' version of Modulok.

I was pretty disappointed when I first read this story as a kid, the origin of Modulok as Galen Nycoff had been built up a lot in the comics by being mentioned in numerous previous issues, and this story felt like a let-down. I'll re-read it and see if I can appreciate it more this time, it definitely has more of a New Adventures feel to it than MOTU.

Funny how Modulok's "human form" looks more like his final form! His face sort of looks like the cartoon version of Webstor. :) The Freighter reminds me of Horde Prime's ship as seen in "Horde Prime Takes A Holiday!" I also like how there is a bank featured in the story, giving the story a more realistic feel. :) Thanks for reading and God Bless!
