The missing scene...

The first time it became apparent that the digital master of "Diamond Ray of Disappearance" had something wrong with it occurred when Mattel released certain episodes of the Filmation series to video cassette during the 2002 toyline. When I watched the episode the first thing I noticed was that an entire scene was missing. After Skeletor makes King Randor, Queen Marlena, and Man-At-Arms disappear, we suddenly cut to He-Man and Battle Cat outside of the Royal Palace; thus losing an entire scene showing Orko's escape! Sadly the same version of the episode appeared on DVD, too. It is sad to think that this brief comical scene has been lost forever. Here are some stills from the missing scene; for those of you that have never seen it!

They should had simply extracted the scene from a VHS. Or locate broadcast tapes and use those. Or simply use French DVD release.

Huge, sincere thanks for featuring this post, James. :) This has to be one of my favorite posts of yours! A shame that a fan-copied tape of this scene as well as the Orko commercial bumpers weren't sent to the company as bonus features for the Season One Volume One DVD ... There were probably legal/property rights issues involved. The still of Evil-Lyn and Mer-Man is my favorite shot of this "lost" scene. :) I've always wanted to see a possible episode featuring those two villains trying to work together! Thanks for reading and God Bless! ~"KevyGuy" :)

I remember watching the tape released in 2002 for the first time and being like, "What the....?" Fortunately, I still had an old copy I taped off of TV as a child.

It is so nice to see the missing scenes. The scenes look as though it would have added to the episodes greatness. I wonder how this became lost over time. I wish it never became lost.

I remember reporting this mistake first thing on the boards the day I finally got the first batch of toys of 200x that came out. I've a couple copies on vhs that have the scene still intact and I plan on having them transferred to dvd.

This sequence use to frighten me a bit b/c it really builds up the threat of Skeletor and the diamond ray. I could relate to Orko's reaction when Skeletor plans to hit him w the ray.

The moment when zoar lands in the window and duncan and orko speak quietly, the music and sounds that kick in, really built up the tension for me. It's still very effective today!

As I'm writing comments on this episode, I'm feeling very nostalgic as to how frightened and excited I'd get when Beast Man calls out "Ahh here they are!" and everyone looks to see the evil warriors and robot knights facing them!

I still can't understand why this was never fixed. I know there are plenty of vhs copies it could be extracted from. I'd seriously would like to know how one scene could just go missing from all of the episodes.

While I'm on the subject, James I'd love to see a piece written on the Greatest adventures of all, that discusses the narration of the sorceress and the intro to Eternia! One of my fondest memories of the vhs

You would think that the footage has to exist somewhere, and they can remaster it.
