"Gwildor's Gamble!" #5

"Gwildor's Gamble!" from issue seventeen of the UK Masters of the Universe Adventure magazine is interesting in that it takes a movie character in Gwildor, and places him firmly in the comic continuity, which some would say is prior to the movie. This story revolves around the power of the Cosmic Key, and dare I say, would have made for a really good minicomic story to accompany the Gwildor action figure! It is odd how this story appears to at first center around Gwildor saving the day, but suddenly switches to Orko as the hero!

Poor Gwildor ... This was just not his story. :( Wow, a page and a half worth of praise for Orko, plus earning a medal ... You can't beat that! Evil-Lyn's comment reminds me of her line to Teela in "The Witch and the Warrior" ... "We make a good team, you and I." :) Thanks for reading and God Bless! ~"KevyGuy" :)

"And all because I found Gwildor's story boring"...

Message of the story: Gwildor sucks, Orko is the true miniature hero of MOTU. Undoubtedly Orko's revenge on Gwildor for stealing what could have been his role in the live action movie.

I actually like Gwildor - my favourite and arguably the most "MOTU-like" of the characters introduced specifically for the movie. Nevertheless, as a Filmation fan first, Orko beats Gwildor every time! ;)

I really enjoyed the idea of putting the character that replaced Orko in the same story as Orko! I LOVE Gwildor and anything featuring the movie characters catches my attention!

I agree with Mosquitor 100% this time. Gwildor was ALWAYS a poor replacement for Orko to me. I was nine years old when the movie came out, and I wasn't fooled! Gwildor is OK. He is probably one of my least favorite characters in MOTU as a whole. But he just isn't Orko. He was in a place where Orko should have been film-wise. I know....Low Budget....Lack of resources. etc.

I think if Gwildor would not have been used as a cheap Orko-substitute, there would have been some potential for him. In my play-time I always used him as some kind of weird scientist.

There is a page in this story that has Jitsu in it. It seems that Jitsu plays small roles in the comics or in any other media he appears in. There may be a story or two where he may play a bigger role. I just find it interesting how he is potrayed in the stories.

I wasn't even aware that there was a UK Masters of the Universe Adventure magazine. I only knew of and collected the comic in my youth. Assuming they are different things, when did the Adventure magazine come out?
