This illustration by
Robin Davies appears on the final page of the
Ladybird book
"The Iron Master". Whilst
He-Man holding aloft the
Sword of Power is nothing original, the colors and boldness of this illustration are very strong. I like the fact that we can see the remains of the
Iron Master, and the molten rock, at He-Man's feet. A very victorious illustration!

I love this illustration, and He-Man's closing speech in the book... very effective ending to possibly the best Ladybird MOTU book.
Agreed! Nice design with the endless stars filling up the sky, too. :) With the great big moon behind He-Man, this reminds me of the setting from "Into The Abyss," as Prince Adam is getting ready to transform into He-Man! Thanks for reading and God Bless! ~"KevyGuy" :)
I'm a huge fan of the Ladybird book artwork - I know when I spoke to Robin Davies a few years ago that he was very happy (and surprised) to know how well thought-of his MOTU artwork is amongst fans! :)
If there are any UK parents (or kids) reading this post, you may also have seen Robin's artwork in more recent years on the Thomas & Friends story library books - the ones that every garden centre in the UK seems to have on display...! :)
I like the way the feathers attach to Stratos' arms as apposed to the way they are on the toy.
I love this illustration so much I made it my desktop background. It reminds me of those puzzles they sell at Wal-Mart on the cheap toy isle, with the moon being so big and all. He-Man raising his sword always stirs an emotion in me. James, when you say it is nothing new, it IS still fresh and new to me!
I totally dig that book to this day. Nearly any illustration in there is awesome, but this one is iconic! I also always loved that Stratos' skin was rather blue than gray.
Beautiful picture! I love the clouds casscading around the mountain as the stand in victory! very epic!
In Germany the audio books were much more influental to MOTU-fandom than the cartoon. For me these books were always a great complimentation to the audio stories, just because of their great art.
I have never seen this piece before. It is very powerful. The colors work well, and the power of He-man is evident with the remains of the Iron Master before him.
Seems very festive!
If you hadn't pointed it out, I wouldn't have ever noticed the remains of the Iron Master there, James. The colours are bold but his "scrap" is very understated, in my opinion.
This is a cool pose, and I wish more people got to experience reading the LadyBird books.
