For the last fifteen years I have collected
He-Man and
She-Ra animation artwork. As a result I have amassed a pretty large collection! Here I present a piece of original background artwork from the
He-Man episode
"Eye of the Beholder". Even though I have never been a fan of this particular episode, this one single image always stood out to me, as we see the beauty of the
Mystic Mountains. Aside from the wonderful detail this artwork is beautifully colored with pinks and purples highlighting the various rock formations that work their way up the mountain. One of the things I love most about this piece is the small gathering of clouds around the summit, indicating just how tall this mountain is!

Fantastic! Great start for 2012!
Always love seeing the Filmation Background-arts. And it's interesting to see how the colours ORIGINALLY looked, instead of how they were slightly altered for tv-screens.
More of these, please. :)
It's got those Filmation evening sky colors that work well against the daytime sky colors. :) ~"KevyGuy" :)
Those background cells are just amazing! Looks like the background is zoomed in a bit.
Although Filmation are regularly criticised for their "cheapness" in terms of animation quality, I don't think anyone could legitimately dispute the beautiful work that their background artists did. So good, in fact, that 20 years later it completely blew away the background artwork of the 200X Mike Young He-Man series! :)
(And yes, this is me being controversial!) :)
Like Jukka, I have always loved the Filmnation background art. This one in particular reminds me somewhat of Mt. Imperium (?) from the "The Powers of Grayskull" episode from the MYP series.
Once I was in the mountains above a thunderstorm. It was freaky! This mountain looks sort of like a volcano with that cloud circling around it.
I have a couple of Filmation backgrounds and I love them. I always really liked the purple and maroon cloudy sky they used a lot in He-Man.
I've always loved the Filmation backgrounds from this show. I liked how they were used other places, like on the packaging for the character erasers.
You are so lucky to have these. I wish i would have a few cels but alas i only have one!
Always was in love with the backgrounds, absolutely beautiful to look at. How come the colours are different in the episode? Do they paint over the cel with the film? (Sorry if I didn't phrase that quite right.)
It's such a great thing to own motu art!! great adittion t o this huge and amazing blog
Man I wish that piece had been used alot more, considering just how many times the Mystic Mountains were mentioned in the series! It would've made a great location for a final battle or secluded base for a one shot villain!
Post #20, by my count. I have no idea if I'll make the full fifty to "win", but at the very least you got me reading through the whole series of blogs! :) One thing I realised just today, actually, is that there were rarely - if ever - clear blue skies on Eternia or Etheria. They always seemed to be pastel colours with plenty of clouds in the background.
