Razz casts spell #1

As episodes of the She-Ra animated series began entering production, a vast amount of character specific stock animation had to be created in order to keep costs down across the series. Whereas He-Man had been a show on which the stock system had been utilized, and on occasion limited the show's visual appeal, on She-Ra creating a high volume of quality-looking stock was now the priority. Before the stock was created, layout artists created the key frame illustrations on certain character actions. Here are the first two pages which show Madame Razz casting a spell. Although the line art looks sharp and finalized, the character design has not been officially finalized at this point. Notice that her mouth is illustrated as being open in the second one; this is just to indicate to the animator how the mouth would look, even though it would almost definitely be illustrated on a separate cel.

This is so great. Filmation should be revived so people can get to do the best job in the world once more. I hope to see some 'Castaspella casts a spell' posts in the future if possible. Then, instead of numbering the post, you could call them Castespella casts a spell A, Castespella casts a spell B, etc.

Razz looks more cheerful here than in the final animation, where she has a more mischievous look. :) This line art looks like a more "Sunday funnies" style, but is still very impressive! Thanks for reading and God Bless! ~"KevyGuy" :)

Oh I love Madame Razz, these are some fun designs. Ya know when looking back at old episodes of She-Ra you can really see that the quality was different than on He-Man. (Personally that makes me one happy camper!)
