FILMATION FEBRUARY - DAY: 10

"Happy Birthday Roboto" layout artwork

Throughout this month The Power and The Honor Foundation in conjunction with The He-Man and She-Ra Blog will be showcasing never-before-seen Filmation production artwork.

Here we see a prime example of how the layout artwork was illustrated to both guide and influence the animators when they came to work on their particular scenes. This illustration of Orko and the robot that guards Man-At-Arms' laboratory from the He-Man episode "Happy Birthday Roboto" focuses on just how frustrated Orko is with the situation. Although the animation in the episode is more in-keeping with the style of the show, the layout artist illustrates the kind of comedy animation they would like to see utilized in the scene.

While the origin of Robot is pretty decent, the episode itself wasn't much good. Though probably due to Roboto's voice... too bad they didn't modify it to sound robotic rather than having Alan do the corny I-AM-A-RO-BOT voice.

Wow! I loved this episode! Getting to see some layout artwork from it makes it even cooler!

Real neat design for the robot guard, just as good as the cartoon version! Orko's angry eyes add a hilarious touch to his frustration. :) Thanks for reading and God Bless! ~"KevyGuy" :)

Always liked John Erwin's voice as the robot. :)

Could also be a BraveStarr be robots. Unfortunately, there was never a crossover.
