Throughout this month The Power and The Honor Foundation in conjunction with The He-Man and She-Ra Blog will be showcasing never-before-seen Filmation production artwork.
Kowl was one of the characters that went through numerous designs for the She-Ra series. Many of the initial concepts have him as a much more rounded Disney-like know-it-all owl bestowed with a great intelligence. Interestingly Kowl's wings were not a pair of oversized ears in the design process. This was something that continued up until the eleventh hour until Charles Zembillas revised his final model by transforming Kowl's wings into his ears.

Quite annoying look. :I
OK, this Kowl looks less likable than the final Kowl...
Interesting so his ears and wings were separate. - Michael Jenkins
Looks great, but I like the one we wound up with.
I always loved and enjoyed the character that is known as Kowl. One of my favorites.
Gotta love the eyebrows! :) Well, I like the detail on these faces better, but I like how the final animated version suggests that Kowl has "hands" instead of wings.
Wow those early images of Kowl look very impressive.
A pity Filmation didn't uterlise those designs, not for Kowl, but just in general.
Very funky looking Kowl-concept. o.O
