FILMATION FEBRUARY - DAY: 26

"Troll's Dream" layout artwork

Throughout this month The Power and The Honor Foundation in conjunction with The He-Man and She-Ra Blog will be showcasing never-before-seen Filmation production artwork.

This piece of layout artwork from the She-Ra episode "Troll's Dream" demonstrates how a layout artist's style would dominate an illustration. As beautiful as She-Ra's face is in this piece, the rendering is off model. Even though layout artwork was a process in-between storyboard and animation, layout supervisors and directors often ensured that even during the layout the characters should be on model to avoid mistakes made by the animators.

While her face is off-model, it's still an interesting look to her. :)

It's interesting to know sometimes in production the animators took liberty with even the title character and didn't always draw her on model, and also to know it was preferred to often draw her on model, in all aspects of production being the norm. I find I'm learning thing's about both He-Man and She-Ra behind the scenes I would have never known had I not been fortunate enough to come by your blog James. Thanks!
