Throughout this month The Power and The Honor Foundation in conjunction with The He-Man and She-Ra Blog will be showcasing never-before-seen Filmation production artwork.
Here is a heavily rendered background of the Crystal Sea from the He-Man episode "Teela's Quest". This line art would eventually be xeroxed and placed on top of the painted background. Not all of the background line art in the series is as strong as this, which is ironic, as numerous artists at Filmation wanted the backgrounds of the Crystal Sea to be devoid of the black outlines.

Interesting ... For the first time I've actually noticed the steps winding upward around the structure on the left! I was wondering how Mer-Man got up there for the scene where he used the power of the Crimson Pearl to summon "Bakkul." :) Thanks for reading and God Bless! ~"KevyGuy" :)
I always loved the Crystal Sea backgrounds. The episode "Teela's Quest" by Paul Dini is simply an astounding piece of work. :)
Interesting, it reminds me of Snake Mountain - the mountain on the left with the stairway instead of the snake. A bridge in the middle, another mountain at the right side... funny.
Fantastic background. :)
First barren landscape ... but like Eternia.
