Throughout this month The Power and The Honor Foundation in conjunction with The He-Man and She-Ra Blog will be showcasing never-before-seen Filmation production artwork.
This background illustration of Spydra's castle from the He-Man episode "The Return of Orko's Uncle" shows the creative minds of those that worked at Filmation. When creating a background for the He-Man or She-Ra series, the artists would often have to create some of the weirdest locations ever seen. In this case the artist had to design a castle with a spider-like motif, hence the castle has large leg-like structures protruding from each side, while the main tower is the spider's body.

Filmation - masters of background art
Wow, never noticed that the castle had leg-like structures until I saw this piece, and I have seen this episode way too many times! I guess I got distracted by the more common center of the structure. :) I have always found it far-fetched and ridiculous how Orko's "exploding" powers caused the entire structure to crumble at the end of the episode! Excellent artwork. :)
I've seen this episode many times when I was a kid, but never paid attention to that design-element. Just shows how great Filmation background-artists were. :)
Very mystical .... reminds me of Indiana Jones
