Here are three lovely pieces of layout artwork from the season one
She-Ra episode
"Book Burning". In these illustrations you can see the layout artist visually explain to the animator how this particular scene with relatively static animation should focus on the expressions of the characters more than anything.
Mantenna's expressions are amusing to look at in each illustration. Initially he notices that the two villagers are not clapping
Hordak's speech, and so in the second illustration he purposely nudges the male villager whilst at the same time giving him a threatening look. The final piece focuses on the villain's eyes as he is facing front once more, but looking out the corner of his eye and making sure that they are applauding as they should be. No points for spotting that the male and female characters are stock characters designed for the
He-Man episode
"Monster on the Mountain".

Ha ha! It's hilarious how the woman looks frightened and the man looks more disgusted in the final panel. :)
It'd be interesting to know just what he said to them. I always got a kick out of Mantenna, to ordinary people he'd seem pretty menacing, but to most of the heroes in the show, he was typically a 2nd rate opponent they'd usually outwit.
looks more like he is encouraging them to prayer
