A brief review #044 - "The Region of Ice"

As many of you will know, in 2010 I published The unofficial cartoon guide to He-Man and the Masters of the Universe. At 300+ pages the book features 700+ pieces of trivia, 460+ deleted scenes, 360+ examples of animation reuse, 380+ quotes, 50+ abandoned episodes, and a LOT more! It is the book that NO fan of the Filmation series can live without! BUY IT NOW!

As an incentive, here is my brief review and rating (as they appear in the book) for "The Region of Ice"...

From the moment He-Man and Orko enter Snake Mountain this episode shines, as the pair are played more like a comedy double act; their dialogue wonderfully playing off one another. Each and every action scene at Snake Mountain is cleverly thought out, with the villains given scenes just as entertaining as the heroes. Patrick Duncan succeeds greatly in crafting a story that effortlessly weaves action and comedy together with some terrific moments of character interaction. He-Man and Orko are the true stars of this episode. Even Snowflake seems to be enjoying herself. An episode that relies this heavily on physical comedy should not work, but this one does. Better than most. 8/10

Now, may I ask; what is YOUR rating?

Agreed, and I believe that you or someone once said on here that it was amazing how the Ice Lord and Snowflake were unaware of what He-Man looked like, which made the plot very interesting, James. You also always liked the humorous dialog of Skeletor complaining about "snow," in regard to the trouble with his reception on the view screen. :) One of my favorite lines from He-Man is when he tells Orko, inside of Snake Mountain, "Now the fun starts!" My only complaint is that Orko is given far more credit than he deserves, as the only thing he does to help out in the episode is tie up Trap Jaw ... Too bad he couldn't combine his magic with Snowflake's when taking on the villains too, but that is a minor complaint. This episode is probably the best of the "ice and snow themed" episodes of the series, and like you say, it has great action AND comedy. :) Thanks for reading and God Bless! ~"KevyGuy" :)
