A Shadow over Etheria #2

Here are pages four to six of a story that appeared in issue thirteen of the UK Princess of Power comic titled "A Shadow over Etheria". With a title like that it will come as no surprise to learn that this story explains Shadow Weaver's origin, touching upon what had already been established in the UK comics over the years. Unlike the cartoon Light Spinner's transformation into the evil being is a tragic one...

A simple transformation...

Glenn Steward illustrated a traditional, yet very simple-looking transformation in the Ladybird book "She-Ra and the Golden Goose". When compared to Robin Davies' transformation images this does not pack quite the same punch. Interestingly the background is very similar to the original She-Ra introduction where we see the Princess of Power with her sword raised in front of the beautiful Etherian sky...

Sprigget?

In the script for the season two She-Ra episode "One To Count On" the role of Sprint was originally assigned to a new Twigget named Sprigget. During production this new character was dropped and Sprint was used in his place. This explains why in the actual episode Sprint's voice is different when compared to his original appearance in the season one episode "A Loss for Words".

Chained Evil!

Here is an amusing illustration drawn by Ladybird book artist Robin Davies for "Warlord of Eternia", a story that appeared in the one-off annual. It is very rare that we get to see Skeletor in such a situation, but what I like most is the Lord of Destruction's pitiful look...

A rare, quiet moment...

Here is a beautifully illustrated panel from the DC minicomic "The Terror of Tri-Klops!" And if you know anything about the DC minicomics you will know that there were not many quiet moments for the Eternians to enjoy. The composition of this image is perfect, as is the dialogue between He-Man and Teela. I do like the fact that after becoming friends with He-Man and the Heroic Warriors, Ram Man appears alongside them with a completely different mindset than his previous one...

Too late!

I'm not entirely sure why, but I love this panel featuring Catra from the She-Ra minicomic "Adventure of the Blue Diamond". I think it has something to do with the level of detail and the almost-maniacal expression of Catra that makes this illustration a winner. Then again we expect nothing but the best from Bruce Timm...

Could you at least turn your back?

Here is one of my favorite little moments from the last episode of the Masters of the Universe series animated by Mike Young Productions; "Awaken The Serpent". Not only had we just witnessed an extremely cool scene with the most powerful man in the universe having the power literally knocked out of him, but this is the moment when we learn that Zodak knows that Prince Adam and He-Man are one and the same!

Systems guidance error!

Here is a great clip from The New Adventures of He-Man episode "Collision Course" featuring Staghorn and B.H. disguised as robots. There are many comical moments in this clip, especially the way in which the two bumbling villains impersonate robot voices. Staghorn is possibly one of my favorite characters from this series, because he had an incredibly well-rounded personality, and a superb accent to match. He also gets the best line in this scene, "Nothing for me thanks, I'm fine."

Unable to transform...

Having been transformed back from He-Man after being struck by a bolt of lightning in The New Adventures of He-Man episode "Sanctuary", Adam raises the sword and calls upon the power of Eternia. It may just be me, but I think there is something unintentionally amusing when the camera pulls back and no transformation is taking place. I cannot stand the fact that Sebrian refers to a missing "ingredient"; "element" would have been a better choice of word...
