Psychic energies...

I always thought that this opening splash page by Mark Texeira for the minicomic "The Power Of... Point Dread!" was easily one of the best from the entire run of comics. Skeletor looks incredibly menacing as he taps the power of the Mystic Crystal of the Caverns in an effort to steal Point Dread and the Talon Fighter. Reading these early minicomics always takes me back to my early days of collecting the Masters of the Universe figures; when the minicomics were the only stories we had. Of course I will always prefer the cartoon, but there is no doubt that the minicomics, especially the early ones were one of the greatest parts of He-Man's legacy!

Taking to the skies...

Here I present another great example of why Robin Davies was such a great artist on the Princess of Power Ladybird books. While I was never a great fan that his style shifted to a more Filmation-accurate one, it was no doubt well suited for the She-Ra books, and you can observe this just by the colors used in this particular image.

Who are these two?

Before any of the She-Ra character designs had been finalized work was already underway on the series. Thus when it came to storyboarding the first She-Ra episode "Into Etheria" artist Don Manuel had no character designs to refer to and subsequently had to design many of the characters himself. As an example here I present a couple of storyboard panels featuring his designs for Mantenna and Scorpia. Mantenna appears to be more bug-like and has a beak for a mouth, while Scorpia is slightly more decorated with armor than her final appearance...

Faces of Evil!

Here is another wonderful Robin Davies illustration from the memorable Masters of the Universe Ladybird book "He-Man meets the Beast". It is fair to say that this is not an action-packed image, but composition of this piece is very special showing both Skeletor and Evil-Lyn extremely close to one another. Another thing to highlight is the great attention to detail on Skeletor's face, and Evil-Lyn's almost hypnotic eyes...

Stridor's color scheme?

In the "Power Play!" story from fifty-eight of the UK Masters of the Universe comic we see Stridor sporting a very odd color scheme. Admittedly I think it kind of works, but it is very different to his original color scheme. I always thought that the Night Stalker had a great color scheme, but this Stridor variation looks somewhat even cooler...

Teela looks...

Here is a frame from "The Problem With Power" as He-Man races away from an impending explosion with Teela in his arms. What is amusing is that in this one frame Teela appears to be breaking the fourth wall and looking directly at the audience in shock!

Here is a really lovely illustration by Robin Davies from the Ladybird book "Shadow Weaver's Magic Mirror". Notice that Kowl has his toy's color scheme even though his design is clearly based on his animated appearance...

Fun to be with.

Here is an interesting little panel from "The Story of Teela" which appeared in issue fifty-seven of the UK Masters of the Universe comic. Shortly after being assigned as Prince Adam's bodyguard Teela begins to discover that the cowardly Prince is very different to what she had expected. I like the peacefulness of this panel with both Prince Adam and Teela observing Eternia's beauty...

Laser-Light Prototype!

Sometimes when promoting their forthcoming Masters of the Universe toys Mattel would only have prototypes to show. As you can see here this prototype of Laser-Light Skeletor is vastly different to the look of the actual toy. Clearly an original Skeletor toy has been customized to function as Laser-Light Skeletor would, but the design of the toy had not yet been finalized. What I like about this image is that it almost looks like a fan's attempt to create a Laser-Light Skeletor figure!

Millions and Billions!

An interesting moment occurs during the season one He-Man episode "Quest for He-man". When the evil Plundor begins to imagine the great wealth he will soon acquire we see his vision which unsurprisingly shows lots of money. But what is surprising is that we see dollar bill signs!
