Hordak's space suit.

One of the last of the He-Man and She-Ra crossover episodes "Shera Makes A Promise" features a brief but very memorable appearance from an incredibly dangerous-looking Hordak. In an effort to destroy He-Man and She-Ra Hordak dons an impressive suit of armor, filled to the brim with weapons! As you can see the artists put a great deal of work into the design. Which only makes it more of a shame when you consider that Hordak's attack on the heroes last about two seconds; then he decides to flee! This armor always looked so impressive that I am sure a writer could have written an entire episode around it...

Mer-Man swims.

This fantastic illustration of Mer-Man by Robin Davies appeared in the Ladybird book "Skeletor's Ice Attack". Not only is the angle on the character rather dramatic with the villain coming straight towards the reader, but the fact that only part of the murky depths of the sea are illustrated around the character make it all the more striking. Also, if you look carefully, you can see the eyes of Mer-Man's servants, the Sea People, all around him!

Reading through Larry DiTillio's script you will see a show that is still very much in development. The one and only Goat Man!

In all my years of being a fan of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, the worst kept secret is that I hate Goat Man, the one-shot villain that appeared in the Golden Book story "Secret of the Dragon's Egg". My problem with the character is that he has to be one of the laziest characters in the history of the brand. Whereas most, if not all, of the Evil Warriors had a purpose to their design, Goat Man is just a big guy with a goat's head. There is nothing more than that. His design and look is incredibly uninspiring. I am thankful that the character never made any other appearances beyond this book. Although, that Andros fellow in the first episode of The New Adventures of He-Man, he does bear more than a passing resemblance to Goat Man...

Smallen's expressions.

The He-Man and the Masters of the Universe model packs often contain some wonderful surprises. In the model pack for the season one He-Man episode "Keeper of the Ancient Ruins" we see model sheets of Professor Smallen. However, we also see a few pages of character expressions, which are always a joy to behold, as the artists often steer clear of the Filmation rules, and we are treated to very unique poses and expressions...

Rachney model sheet.

One of the many memorable aspects of the season two He-Man episode "Origin of the Sorceress" is the fact that it features the first appearance of the Evil Horde. The three unnamed representatives of the Horde clearly sport the emblem that we would soon associate with the villains featured in the She-Ra series. Here is a model sheet featuring Rachney, described in the script as the "spider-like Horde soldier"...

"Island of Terror" #4

Here I present the final four pages of an action-packed story from issue seventy-two of the UK Masters of the Universe comic. This issue, featuring the story "Island of Terror", was actually the last issue of the regular series. After this issue only Masters of the Universe Adventure was published. The final pages in this story have some fantastically detailed panels that are awe-inspiring. And the Disappearing Sea is such a good idea that it should have appeared in other canons...
