THIS forest?

In the episode "Prince Adam No More" the map that King Randor examines in the Attak Trak features a lot of Filmation in-jokes. Drawn by William Wray it features some interesting locations on Eternia. Aside from the blatantly obvious "THIS forest" we have "Joan Rivers" a nod to the American talk show host, "Herschensohn Lake" a reference to Wes Herschensohn one of the elder storyboard artists at the time, "Rolnik River" a reference to Sharon Rolnik another storyboard artist, and finally "Emerald City" from The Wizard of Oz makes an appearance. Also we have the amusingly named "Evil Area" and "Bad Mountains."

Yeah that map is pretty amusing, I also like Man-At-Arms comment when Randor says "where to next Duncan" and MAA replies "the city of Drisdos is just on the other side of THIS Forest" LOL

It's like an Airplane spoof. Especially with that big area labeled Great Waste. I hope it wasn't someone's commentary about the show.

It took me a while to find "Joan Rivers," but it's there ... You need a magnifying glass, though! :)

The animators did a fine job of putting lots of detail into King Randor's hands ... Looks very realistic and not so much "cartoony!"

Great feature James! Thanks for sharing!

I especially love the nods to storyboard guys. And "Wizard of Oz" reference is fantastic as well.

Does the name "Drisdos" come from anything in particular?
This image looks SO great in DVD-quality. :)
