"My Friend No More" #1

Here is a very memorable story from issue thirty-one of the UK Masters of the Universe comic titled "My Friend No More". Many consider this to be one of the best of the entire UK run; a story which focuses heavily on two characters that we would not really think twice about. The writer not only tells an entertaining story, but also makes us care for these two characters! Here are pages one to five...

This is definitely one of the greatest, if not THE greatest, story ever in the UK comics. I remember singing its praises in the early days of the fan community when next to nothing was known about the UK comics. It really established these two minor characters as an integral part of the comics' mythology, and the tragic history between Extendar and Dragstor was referenced numerous times throughout the remainder of the comics' run.

The atmosphere of this strip is impressively dark and suspenseful for a comic story; this would have made a great episode. IIRC this was also the first of many stories in the UK comics to take up a whole issue.

Doodon is the closest Prince Adam look-alike I have seen! When the friends say "There's always next year," I think of the other opponents losing the race in the She-Ra episode, "The Red Knight." :) The kind act of the one friend helping the other makes me think of He-Man rescuing Spikor during their contest from "The Games." :) Mantenna's expression, on the last page, is hilarious!
Thanks for reading! God Bless!
